Request a book.
For the moment, new requests are closed as there is already a large queue. However, you can still contact me to express your interest, and I'll get back to you later.
If you'd like a book based on your child's story, it's simple: just make the request and be patient. It's entirely free; the only thing I ask in return is your willingness to participate in creating the book by providing enough information, anecdotes, and photos so I can work under optimal conditions and make the book as faithful as possible to your warrior's story.
Each book is 100% customizable to your child's story: each illustration will represent their story as faithfully as possible. You can talk about their unique qualities, hobbies, dreams, family, diagnosis, treatment... It's really open and personal. It's entirely possible to focus the book on one aspect of their life (for example, managing diabetes during sports). Details about the type of treatment are quite important (multiple daily injections, tubeless pump, pump, CGMS...). Also, remember that funny anecdotes are welcome: the goal is to create something personal and unique, not just medical. It's all about creating a beautiful narrative that celebrates your child's journey.
To get started, send me an email to be added to the queue with a way to contact you that you're responsive to (email, Instagram, Facebook, etc.). When I'm about to start working on the book, I'll contact you to define the book's theme, the elements and anecdotes to mention, and provide photos for me to use in the illustrations. The more anecdotes and photos I have, the more faithful the book will be. Particularly if there's a specific point like a sport (specific outfit...).
Only share information you're okay with sharing publicly; you're not obligated to share personal details if you don't want to. I respect your choices regarding yours and your child's privacy. I take care to avoid any risk to your child, remove any potential elements that could suggest their place of residence, school, name, or other overly personal elements.
Before publicly revealing the digital book, we'll check together if it suits you, and we can make any necessary changes without any problem to ensure that the book perfectly captures your child's essence.
Each book is tailored so the vocabulary and complexity are relative to the child's age.
Keep in mind that all of this is done in my spare time, beyond classes, extracurricular activities, and other daily activities and obligations. I devote a considerable number of hours to it, although I would greatly like to be more productive. Thank you for your understanding regarding the waiting time (expect several weeks or months).
If you are not English-speaking, don't worry, I can still create a book for you. If you are able to express yourself in French or English to some extent, we can work together to create a story in your language. Similarly, if you are bilingual and some of the books are not translated into your language, I would be immensely grateful if you would provide a translation of the book, which I would be delighted to add to the library. This series is all about being helpful to as many people as possible, all around the world.
I want to emphasize the concept of the project by reminding you that the goal is not necessarily to make a book for each child, but rather to build a vast library useful to all kids. While having a book in their image is indeed gratifying and empowering for children, discovering the stories of others going through similar difficulties/the same daily life can be just as beneficial. That's why when we have enough books covering most aspects in different ways, treatments, diagnoses, ages, and relatively different stories... I will take a break in making new books.
QUEUE:
- Levi
You can easily print and make this book. For those of you with children old enough to do manual activities, making those books can even become a fun playtime. There are different ways to bind them, but below you'll find the simplest, summarized in the following video :
The books are only distributed on this site and on the social media associated with this project and can be removed at any time if you wish. No profit will be made from your child's story, the only goal is to make it useful and inspiring to other little warriors. My only compensation is to bring some support and joy to children going through a situation I've experienced myself without this type of resources.
When the book is distributed, you're free to distribute them, print them, have them printed, distribute them on another platform, etc... any kind of distribution is conceivable, and commercialization is equally so, although in this case, I would like you to inform me. My perspective is that these books should be useful and accessible to as many people as possible, so if their commercialization helps achieve this goal, I have no objection, however, I would like it not to be solely for profit (you could, for example, use some of the benefits to have copies printed to distribute in hospitals, make a donation to a reputable association, or use it wisely (to finance your child's treatment...)).
But if you're interested in commercializing the book, we should first discuss it via email at t1djourneykidsbooks@gmail.com to ensure we're on the same page (and if necessary, provide you with the book in a format/size required by the printer, etc...). Note that none of the T1D Journey books earn me any money personally, for the simple reason that I don't want to exploit sick children's stories for profit and that I do it completely selflessly. Money is not my concern with this project, and I am determined not to make money from it.
